This poem has always been a favourite of the many I admire by Jo Shapcott, possibly because of the work of its subject - there are references to his work in the poem that are not covered in the intro but I don't think that detracts from it being a great piece.
I hope you enjoy the reading

I've been looking for quality poetry about grief. Any suggestions?

In exchange, I offer this short Samuel Beckett poem - untitled, and translated from the French by the author.

I would like my love to die
and the rain to be falling on the graveyard
and on me walking the streets
mourning the first and last to love me.

To make up for my last, sad post, I thought I'd better share my favourite poem. It's from Old Possum's Boof of Practical Cats - but it's such fun, I don't think it's just for kids. Best read out loud, with feeling!

Macavity the Mystery Cat

by TS Eliot

He's the bafflement of Scotland Yard, the Flying Squad's despair:
For when they reach the scene of crime - Macavity's not there!

Macavity, Macavity, there's no one like Macavity,
He's broken every human law, he breaks the law of gravity.
His powers of levitation would make a fakir stare,
And when you reach the scene of crime - Macavity's not there!
You may seek him in the basement, you may look up in the air -
But I tell you once and once again, Macavity's not there!
