I, also, have struggled with this piece. The anger and the strangely focussed dismissal of so much of Western civilization. It is that particular focus that gives me pause and makes me wonder if I'm fully understanding what Hall's "nuclear bomb" is actually rejecting....The voice of the apocalyptic destruction is so strong and so shocking...and wildly well done....yet I find myself wanting to argue with the bomb. The damning of the "managers" and the rejecting of modern life and those living it feels personal and I'm not sure that this sort of armeggedon is personal.
For me, this line...seems to hold an answer of sorts - "potted chrysanthemums allowed to die"
