Mar. 10th, 2003 05:15 pmHello all. I recently joind. Here is my first offering. I know it's a relatively well know poem, but it is wondrous. Really, I recommend you download it. This poem was meant to be performed.
Oade to the Maggot
Brother of the blowfly
& godhead, you work magic
Over battlefields,
In slabs of bad pork
& flophouses. Yes, you
Go to the root of all things.
You are sound & mathematical.
Jesus, Christ, you're merciless
With the truth. Ontological & lustrous,
You cast spells on beggars & kings
Behind the stone door of Caesar's tomb
Or split trench in a field of ragweed.
No decree or creed can outlaw you
As you take every living thing apart. Little
Master of earth, no one gets to heaven
Without going through you first.
Cheer
Oade to the Maggot
Brother of the blowfly
& godhead, you work magic
Over battlefields,
In slabs of bad pork
& flophouses. Yes, you
Go to the root of all things.
You are sound & mathematical.
Jesus, Christ, you're merciless
With the truth. Ontological & lustrous,
You cast spells on beggars & kings
Behind the stone door of Caesar's tomb
Or split trench in a field of ragweed.
No decree or creed can outlaw you
As you take every living thing apart. Little
Master of earth, no one gets to heaven
Without going through you first.
Cheer

Date: 2003-03-11 02:57 pm (UTC)Oade should be spelled "Ode"
Also, I don't think this poem was "meant to be performed" any more than any poem is meant to be performed.
ok.
Some people's kids...
Date: 2003-03-12 02:51 pm (UTC)Well, I'm impressed with how much it offended you.
But what must one expect when one is writing in an Internet Cafe in New Orleans with 23 seconds of time remaining before they pull the plug. Perhaps a more careful eye would have noticed that "joined" is spelled "joind", and that "Cheers" is spelled "Cheer" due to lack of time. Frankly, I'm disappointed in you. But, way to not look beyond the tip of your own nose. Good job.
Also - it seems you don't like Performance Poetry. Well, that means that no poetry should be performed, right? Apparently. Congratulations on your close-mindedness. Wonderful to see you take your opinions to be Universal.
But hey, I appreciate your simpleness.
Love always,
Marka
