Birthday request

It's my best (known-her-since-we-were-babies) friend's 18th birthday in two weeks. As part of her present, I want a poem, to print out and decorate and frame all nicely. If I could write anything but your run-of-the-mill dark depressed teenage whining, I'd write something myself, but I'm hopeless.

So, I turn to you, o holders of the poetry knowledge. I'm looking for something about overcoming adversity, or friendship, or something along those lines.

Don't know if there'll be anything suitable here or not, but there's a guy who's written a huge number of poems on just about every subject you can think of and put them on the internet for people to use for special occasions etc. - if you go to his contents page there is a friendship section - http://www.poemsforfree.com/index.html

Or there's this section of poems on friendship on poemhunter.com - http://www.poemhunter.com/poems/Friendship/ or this other one with friendship poems - http://www.netpoets.com/poems/friends/. Actually if you just google 'poems about friendship' you get loads of results... there don't seem to be so many about adversity straight off, but there are some.

No specific recommendations, but you might look over Shakespeare's sonnets.
