Grow

a tadpole doesn't know
it's gonna grow bigger
it just swims
and figures limbs
are for frogs

people don't know
the power they hold
they just sing hymns
and figure saving
is for god

So I have a shadow of a poem in my head. It's about the end of the world or nominally about it anyway. And it might be by Billy Collins but I'm not sure.

At any rate, I'm looking for poems that are about the end of the world, the apocalypse, armageddon. Preferably ones that might be tongue-in-cheek or slightly satirical in nature.

Thanks!

Though I still want your end of the world suggestions...here's the poem I was looking for (thank god(s) for google)

    The End of the World

      by Archibald MacLeish

    Quite unexpectedly as Vasserot
    The armless ambidextrian was lighting
A match between his great and second toe
And Ralph the Lion was engaged in biting
The neck of Madame Sossman while the drum
Pointed, and Teeny was about to cough
In waltz-time swinging Jocko by the thumb —
Quite unexpectedly the top blew off.

And there, there overhead, there, there, hung over
Those thousands of white faces, those dazed eyes,
There in the starless dark, the poise, the hover,
There with vast wings across the cancelled skies,
There in the sudden blackness, the black pall
Of nothing, nothing, nothing — nothing at all.
