From Patient Grissel, by Dekker
Nov. 1st, 2019 12:34 pmGolden Slumbers - by the Beatles Thomas Dekker, et alia, 1603
Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise.
Sleep, pretty wantons; do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby:
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
Care is heavy, therefore sleep you;
You are care, and care must keep you;
Sleep, pretty wantons; do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby:
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.
This poem, from Dekker's play, "Patient Grissel," was subsequently put to music by several people, including by Paul McCartney, (Abbey Road). I find this interesting. And, the lines at the end of the poem seem to forsage rock-and-roll itself, yes? (For you Reggae fans: Was Desmond Dekker related to the writer of this lyrical poem?)
"Sleep, pretty wantons"...
lmfao
NOTE: We need to lobby LJ to increase the maximum amount of tags for communities from 4,000 to 5,000 !!!!! Who is with meh?
