I have been one acquainted with the night.
I have walked out in rain - and back in rain.
I have outwalked the furthest city light.
I have looked down the saddest city lane.
I have passed by the watchman on his beat
And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.

I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
When far away an interrupted cry
Came over houses from another street,

But not to call me back or say good-bye;
And further still at an unearthly height,
O luminary clock against the sky

Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
I have been one acquainted with the night.

-- Robert Frost

Seems a very fitting poem for the way Mother Nature has been acting the past few nights. Bizarre weather patters all over the country but especially on the East Coast where I am. I hope you enjoy the read.

I've loved all the poems everyone has been sharing and I wish I had more time to comment but lately work is keeping me very busy. Thank you all who share, it's so wonderful to take a break and read such beautiful entries.

I was very happy. I was worried they'd give something like Sylvia Plath's "Sow" again.... >_

Very nice! A good Frost poem always surprises me with the words' innate glamor.

...My sister is in a Christian school, where they're having her read something for eighth grade graduation--something with the theme of traveling or roads--and she's been really upset because everything they'll let her do is just...well, really corny. I'm so glad you posted this, because I think it will work. ^_^

Oh god this is perhaps one of my favorite poems! And I'll second the freaky weather! I'm in Maryland. In May it was hotter than Hell, now June is here it's almost cold. What gives?!
