emily dickinson -- untitled
Aug. 28th, 2002 08:38 amI Felt a cleavage in my mind
As if my brain had split;
I tried to match it, seam by seam,
But could not make them fit.
The thought behind I strove to join
Unto the thought before,
But sequence ravelled out of reach
Like balls upon a floor.
As if my brain had split;
I tried to match it, seam by seam,
But could not make them fit.
The thought behind I strove to join
Unto the thought before,
But sequence ravelled out of reach
Like balls upon a floor.

Date: 2002-08-28 03:28 pm (UTC)1. shakespeare and joyce by vincent john cheng (on finnegan's wake)
2. joyce and shakespeare by william schutte (on ulysses)
3. hamlet and the new poetic: james joyce and t. s. eliot by william quillian
hugh kenner, in a colder eye, also has some interesting chapters on joyce's use of chiarascuro in portrait. he also has an interesting idea of how hamlet is like ulysses, or rather, how they're a taling *grin* of the same story but hamlet is told from the son's persepective & ulysses is told from the father's persepective.
hope that helps. s.
