First, a poem, as this is a poetry community...
Introduction to Poetry, Billy Collins
I ask them to take a poem
and hold it up to the light
like a color slide
or press an ear against its hive.
I say drop a mouse into a poem
and watch him probe his way out,
or walk inside the poem's room
and feel the walls for a light switch.
I want them to waterski
across the surface of a poem
waving at the author's name on the shore.
But all they want to do
is tie the poem to a chair with rope
and torture a confession out of it.
They begin beating it with a hose
to find out what it really means.
and second,
I'm a co-mod of a rather large and popular community myself (
broadway, 1462 members), and what we have set up is a system where a person's first post has to be approved by a mod, and after that, they can be added to the list of pre-approved posters. perhaps something like that could be set up here? it would certainly cut back on trolls posting epics, or even just newbies who don't know how to lj cut. I don't know if it would help, but it's really been helpful for me and my co-mod, so I thought I'd throw the idea out there.
